About us · Independent nursing education
Everything about nursing, taught through the case.
NurseCaseLab is an independent publication for nursing students and new nurses. We explain simulation, clinical reasoning, documentation, the NCLEX, and nursing careers the way nursing is actually practiced: one patient at a time.
How we build a guide
Nursing students are asked to think like nurses long before they feel like one. Textbooks explain the facts and question banks test them, but the hardest part, deciding what matters for this patient right now, is rarely taught directly. NurseCaseLab exists to teach that part.
01 / Mission
Why we exist.
We started with virtual patient simulation, the Shadow Health, i-Human, and Sentinel U cases that students meet early in their programs and often find confusing. Students rarely get stuck because they lack facts. They get stuck because they don't yet have a repeatable way to reason through a patient.
That reasoning is the same skill the Next Generation NCLEX measures and that every specialty depends on. So we're expanding: NurseCaseLab is growing into a full nursing-education library, and every topic is still taught through the patient in front of you.
02 / Coverage
What we cover.
- Virtual simulation. Case-by-case reasoning guides for Shadow Health, i-Human, and Sentinel U, plus a platform comparison.
- Clinical judgment & the NCLEX. The NCLEX-RN study hub explains the 2026 test plan area by area, with original practice questions, plus how the Next-Gen NCLEX clinical judgment model works.
- Clinical skills & documentation. Head-to-toe assessment, SOAP notes, care plans, handoffs, and charting, each taught through a worked case in our clinical skills library.
- Nursing careers & pathways. Specialty guides, degree pathways, and licensure explained with sources you can check. Coming next.

03 / Method
How we work.
Every guide starts from a real question students ask. We answer it with a worked case and check every factual claim against a primary source: the NCSBN for the NCLEX and licensure, state boards of nursing, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for pay and employment, professional and certifying organizations, the simulation vendors' own documentation, and peer-reviewed literature. Sources are listed at the end of each article.
Articles carry a published date and, when we revise them, an updated date. Our editorial policy explains how we write, review, update, and correct our content, and how we handle commercial links.
NurseCaseLab is for education. It is not medical advice and doesn't replace your program's instruction, your clinical instructors, or your facility's policies. Always follow your school's academic integrity policy when you use any study resource.
04 / Disclosure
Independence & relationships.
NurseCaseLab isn't affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Shadow Health (Elsevier), i-Human Patients (Kaplan), Sentinel U, vSim for Nursing (Laerdal Medical and Wolters Kluwer), or the NCSBN. Product and case names are used only to identify the topics we write about.
NurseCaseLab and NursingProxy are related learning properties. Some guides include a clearly labeled link to a relevant NursingProxy resource. Those links are optional, are disclosed where they appear, and never decide what we cover or conclude. We don't accept paid placements or sponsored rankings.
